Main Provisions of the Gambling Ordinance in Uganda
The Lotteries and Gaming Act came into effect in 2016 to regulate the workings of casinos and lotteries in the country. Ugandaβs casino industry has become a world-class one, thanks to proper regulation and licensing that only allows safer conduct in the long run. Here are the key provisions of this law:
Establishment of the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board
The Act establishes the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board, which is mandated to regulate and supervise the establishment, management, and operation of lotteries, gaming, betting, and casinos in Uganda.
Licensing and Regulation
The Act provides for the licensing and regulation of lotteries, gaming, and betting. The Board is responsible for issuing licenses for casinos, gaming, and betting.
Taxation
The Act provides for the taxation of casinos, gaming, and betting activities.
Prohibition on Minors
The Act includes provisions that prohibit minors from participating in gambling activities.
National Central Electronic Monitoring System
The Act mandates the establishment of a national central electronic monitoring system.
Repeal of Previous Acts
The Act repeals the National Lotteries Act, Cap. 191 and the Gaming and Pool Betting (Control and Taxation) Act, Cap. 292.
The Act set up an important regulating body, as mentioned earlier, the National Gaming Board, that promotes the safe conduct of casinos in both the online and offline format. Since the Act is quite new, it acknowledges the rise of online forums that provide casino gaming services. It is the bodyβs primary goal to only allow access to eligible adults when it comes to online casino gaming. Strict laws and regulations have been further put forward regarding the safeguarding of minors from engaging in casino activities. The strict parameters regarding the licensing and functioning of online casinos in Uganda help create a healthier gambling scene that is best accessible by the local folk.
