Over 4.5 goals betting market – Meanings and how to use it!

One of the popular betting markets that you will find on virtually every sportsbook is the Over/Under Goals market. For this market, you don’t need to be concerned about who will win the game, just the amount of goals that will be scored. The Over 4.5 goals market is one of the more fun markets to cheer on as you are betting on at least five goals in the game. Just be careful when betting on a cup match, as this market only includes regular time and injury time and won’t include extra time.

What is Over 4.5 Goals In Betting?

So, placing a bet on this market is very simple to understand. You are betting on there being five or more goals. If there are less than or exactly four goals, your bet loses. It doesn’t matter which team scored the goals or when they scored. Penalties and own goals are included if the goal is scored in regulation time plus any injury time. So a scoreline of 3-2 or 4-1 or 5-0 or anything higher will mean your bet will win.

Where can I bet on Over 4.5 goals?

Nearly all sportsbooks have some form of under/over goal market. Some have more options than others, but the majority have the over 4.5 goal market.

Rabona had the best odds available for this market. There are plenty of football leagues to choose from, and they have a decent welcome bonus offer if you are not already a member. Every game we checked had the option to bet on there being over 4.5 goals. They do have an app if you prefer mobile betting and a wide range of easy-to-use payment options.

Over 4.5 goals – Betting Definition

The .5 in the over 4.5 goals market means a refund is impossible because the .5 stops any chance of a “push” (when neither the bookmaker nor the bettor wins).

  • Over- This makes it clear that whatever the figure for this market is, you must be over that amount for your bet to win
  • 4.5 – A bookmaker sets different limits for each bet. It’s impossible for something to happen 0.5 times. This tells us the stat we’re betting on can’t happen, and you can only be over or under that figure
  • Goals—This tells us what event we are betting on in the game. In this case, we are betting on the number of goals scored. It could also be cards in the game or number of corners.

So when you bet on over 4.5 goals, you are betting on five goals or more being scored within regular time plus injury time. So the only way you can lose this bet is if there are under 4 goals in the game.

Over 4.5 goals odds

No matter what league you are betting on, there are typically under five goals in the average game. This means you can expect a decent return if your bet comes in. This, of course, means that, on average, it won’t happen so the trick is to try to pick the games which are an exception to the norm. Tips and strategies for betting on Over 2.5 goals

Five goals or more are not typical results in a game. So, it is important to do some research before placing a bet to improve your chances of success.

The league you’re betting on is one factor to consider.  In the more well-known elite leagues like the German Bundesliga, only 1 in 5 games ends with five or more goals. So, one strategy to help would be to look for a league where this sort of result is more frequent. So, for example, at the time of writing, the Singapore S-League has had 48% of its games finish with more than five goals, so this would be a good league to look at. It’s certainly worth researching beforehand, as some leagues are low-scoring. Somewhere like the Japan J League, less than 2% of games end with five or more goals.

Another good tip is to check a team’s previous results. If you can find a fixture where both teams are regularly involved in high-scoring games, there’s a good chance history will repeat itself. Of course, nothing is guaranteed.

FAQ. Frequently Asked Questions
  • No, this type of bet only includes regulation time, which is the standard 90 minutes plus any injury time. So if it's 2-2 at the end of regulation time and in Extra Time the 5th goal is scored, it won't count, and your bet will be settled as a loss.

  • Well, it depends on your criteria. If you're looking for a sure thing, it certainly isn't a good bet. With so few games ending with 5 goals, if you're looking for a good return on your bet, then you will usually find good odds on this market.

  • Yes, they do. Whatever the score is at Full time ( 90 minutes plus injury time) will be the score that is counted for your bet; it doesn't matter when in the match they were scored, what team scored them, or the method.
